We always need more Foster Families!

Furever Home Dog Rescue needs loving people to foster dogs so we can save abandoned puppies and dogs of every age. As a shelter-less rescue, we rescue them from over-populated animal shelters across the US. We place them with loving families who open their hearts and homes to our dogs until they are adopted!

We provide everything you need to foster — training, support, vet costs, medications, toys, collars/leashes, and crates if needed. You just provide the love!

As a foster, you choose the specific pup you want to foster. We send photos of all the pups and dogs ready to leave the shelter to our foster list — if you see one you want, you just tell us. It’s that simple.

Going away for a weekend or a week? No problem — just let us know. Most of the time, we can line up another foster for that stretch. Or simply skip that round of pups until you’re ready again. No pressure, no guilt.

Fostering is a rewarding experience, and you will help save a dog’s life. It’s ideal for families who are unable to commit to an animal of their own due to extensive travel or their current living arrangement. Many families try fostering before adopting to get a realistic experience for themselves and their children — it’s a win-win for everyone. Another benefit: fostering one dog saves two dogs, since it opens up space in the shelter.

How do I get started as a foster?

Do I need experience to foster a dog?

No experience is necessary. Most of our fosters were first-time fosters when we met them. We match you with a dog that fits your home and lifestyle, and our team is always available to answer questions and support you the whole way through.

What is a foster’s responsibility?

Provide daily care (feeding, water, exercise), — administer any meds or supplements (if needed, and provided by FHDR) — observe dog’s behavior and personality — communicate with FHDR on the dogs developments.

How long do I foster a dog for?

Most fosters last one to two months — just until the dog is matched with their adoptive family. Some dogs find their furever home sooner; a few may need a bit longer.

What does Furever Home Dog Rescue provide?

We cover vetting, supplies, ongoing support, adopter screening and the adoption. FHDR is there to guide you throughout your fostering experience. As a foster, you just provide a safe home and some love.

Can I choose what kind of dog I foster?

Yes. We have puppies, young dogs, adult dogs, and special needs dogs. Our foster families choose the specific pup they want that is the right fit for their home.

Do I need a house or a yard to foster a dog?

No — apartments and rentals are welcome, as long as your landlord allows dogs and the breed you choose isn’t restricted. What matters most is a safe, loving environment.

Can I foster if I already have pets?

Many of our foster families have dogs, cats, or kids at home already. We’ll work with you to find a foster dog who’s a good match for your household.

Can I take part in the adoption process?

Yes, definitely. Fosters can help spread the word on social media and with friends and family. When we have an approved applicant, we set up a meet-and-greet between the family, the foster, and the pup — and your input as the foster is a key part of deciding if it’s the right match.

What happens when my foster dog gets adopted?

You’ll be the first to know! Many foster families feel a mix of pride and a little sadness — often called “the good kind of goodbye.” Many choose to foster again right away, while others take a little time before their next foster. All of our fosters can stay in touch with the adopting family, and FHDR has a Facebook group where fosters, shelters, volunteers, and adopters stay connected with photos and stories every day.

Why are fosters needed?

• You give a dog a safe place to live instead of an overcrowded shelter.

• You’re giving a dog a second chance at life — a place where they can thrive, feel safe and loved, and eventually find their furever home.

• Socializing the dog in a home environment, getting them used to people, and sometimes other pets makes all the difference.

• Many rescue groups don’t operate shelters — without foster families, many dogs would be euthanized.
